Can I just use the wattage instead of BTUs? Yes, BTUs and Watts measure the same thing-power output. One Watt is equivalent to approximately 3.41 BTUs. While the UK plumbing industry traditionally uses BTUs for radiators, electric heaters are almost always sold based on their Wattage. You can easily convert between the two if needed.

What if my room calculation falls between two radiator sizes? You should always round up to the next available size. It is much better to have a radiator that is slightly too powerful (which can be controlled via a thermostatic radiator valve) than one that is too weak to heat the room on the coldest days of the year.

Do I need a higher BTU for rooms with vaulted ceilings? Absolutely. Heat rises, and vaulted ceilings drastically increase the cubic volume of a room. The calculator accounts for ceiling height precisely for this reason. A room with a vaulted ceiling will require a significantly more powerful heat source than a room with a standard ceiling height.
